Weyburn police have busy week with notable incidents

The Weyburn Police Service responded to 93 calls for service between June 1 and 8.

The Weyburn Police Service responded to 93 calls for service between June 1 and 8.

Several notable incidents occurred during this period:

Breach of Conditions – June 1
While on routine patrol, officers observed an adult male and female walking together. Police were aware that court-imposed conditions prohibited any contact between the two individuals. Both were arrested and charged with breaching their respective conditions.

Fire Incident – June 2
Police responded to a call from provincial fire regarding a fire on Ash Drive. Upon arrival, officers discovered a three-wheeler travel bike fully engulfed in flames. With assistance from the homeowner and a neighbour’s garden hose, officers were able to extinguish the fire before fire crews arrived to secure the scene. The bike was completely destroyed, and the front of the home sustained significant fire damage.

Breach of Community Sentence Order – June 3
During a traffic stop, police identified that the male driver didn’t possess a valid driver’s license and was also subject to a 24-hour curfew under a Community Sentence Order. The male was arrested and remanded into custody pending a court appearance.

Impaired driving by drug – June 6
Police were called to a local gas station for a suspected impaired driver. Officers located an adult male in control of his vehicle, displaying signs of drug impairment. A Drug Recognition Expert from the Weyburn Police Service conducted an assessment and confirmed impairment. The male was arrested and charged accordingly.

Resisting arrest and obstruction – June 7
Police responded to a report of a highly intoxicated male outside a local drinking establishment. Upon arrival, the male became combative while being taken into custody for being intoxicated in public. He was charged with resisting arrest and obstruction, and was held in police cells until sober.

Domestic assault – June 7
In the early morning hours, police responded to a report of domestic violence involving an adult male and female. The male had fled the residence prior to police arrival, but officers observed visible injuries on the female. The male later turned himself in and was arrested, charged, and placed under conditions including no contact with the victim.

Wellness and mental health calls
Police responded to 10 wellness and mental health-related calls throughout the week. One individual was transported for further care, and another was held in custody due to a high level of intoxication. All other incidents were resolved peacefully with no further action required.
